Mellish Family Vineyards Bakenkop Chenin Blanc 2023
Mellish Family Vineyards Bakenkop Chenin Blanc 2023
Floral notes of honeysuckle and orange blossom together with apricot, peach, white pear and tangerine zest follow onto the palate where a creamy and leesy texture is combined with notes of almond and smoke. The zesty acidity provides the structural backbone of the wine. The finish is dry with a pleasant pithiness.

Other | From a bush vine vineyard planted in 2017, on the south-facing slopes of Bakenkop hill, on Welbeloond Farm. The vineyard has ancient, decomposed, shale soils and sits between 100 and 130 m above sea-level and is 9 Km east of the Atlantic Ocean. The vineyard has been farmed organically since its inception, but not yet certified.
Harvest yields were 9.82 tons/Ha. Picked by hand into crates early in the morning. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed followed by overnight settling before being racked into old, French oak barrels 1 x 300 L & 1 x 500 L. 100% wild ferments from ambient yeast. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine then matured in the barrels on the fine lees for 9 months before bottling. W.O. Durbanville, Cape Town Production: 996 bottles |
